How To Save Pictures From Flickr On Iphone
Download to iPad WITHOUT Flickr App or Flickr Account
bilang:Friends and relatives want local copies of some photos from my Flickr stream for off-line viewing and for printing at a photo kiosk. For friend/relatives using a PC, I can direct them to my Flickr account and instruct them to use the "download" button to copy photos onto their PC, but this method doesn't work for friends/relatives who use iPad/iPhone exclusively. Conventional advice from this forum is for them to install the Flickr app from the App Store, and save the photos into their Camera Roll using that app. However, using the Flickr app requires them to have a Flickr account, which (unfortunately) is too big a hurdle for them to pass. So - is there a way for these people to save the photos onto their iOS device if neither the web method nor the app method will work for them? |
The Searcher bilang:I think the issue with apple-device users is those devices don't support the "zip" format, which is an archive file format used to compress large number of files (in this case photos) for download. The bulk download feature on Flickr uses the zip format, so anyone on an iphone or ipad would need to have an additional app installed that can "unzip" those files back into photos. However they should still be able to download photos one at a time with the "download" button on each photo.
kmacgray bilang: Downloading photos in Mobile Safari on an iPad is exactly the same as doing it on a desktop computer, with the one exception of needing to long press on the displayed image to save it. Searcher is correct above though. Albums cannot be downloaded because zip files aren't supported by iOS. They will have to download one photo at a time.
InnAtElmwood bilang: agree; this is how I have had to do it, too.
jacksonmacd bilang:OK - got it. One at a time is acceptable. Also took me a while (as a non-Apple user) to figure out how to save the photo once it's downloaded. Now to pass on this info to my relatives. BTW - long press was not required. A tap on the download button was sufficient. It's the "saving" step that had me stymied. Thanks.
kmacgray bilang: Tapping the download link simply displays the image on screen. You then need to long press that image to save it to the iPad's Camera Roll.
ramonegger bilang:I'm not sure if the problem really comes from Apple not coping with zip-files, as I expirience the same problem on an Android device. When I receive a link to a shared album and open it on a mobile device (i.e. showing the responsive website) it only shows the "star" and "comment" buttons, but no download button (see: goo.gl/Y9z0fn). Also long-press is prohibited. When I open the link on a desktop computer or make my phone load the desktop version of the website, the buttons are there (goo.gl/6dUIFv).
kmacgray bilang: The download function is not a feature of the responsive mobile pages. This was covered in the official topic for that. Staff have stated that for downloading images on mobile devices, you should use the Flickr app.
ramonegger bilang: Thank you for the information, I didn't know that. On another note, I think this is a completely wrong approach, in times where boundaries between different types of devices are more and more blurred. The functionality of a website should never depend on the screen size of your device. |
